Viruses in the «Code Red» family were very dangerous.

The user was not required to perform an operation to infect the computer with the virus. All it took was a computer connection to the Internet. Just because of this, viruses presumed from the vulnerability of Windows operation system. And what did they finally do ?

They made it possible for the infected computer to be remotely controlled. And this allowed the criminal to take all the information he needed from the victim's computer and use it for insidious purposes. For example, a connection was made to White House computers. Moreover, the address of the infected computer was not kept secret

Fortunately, the US government was able to move to another address to avoid a hacker attack, and other organizations were less fortunate. Eventually, more than 200,000 servers were infected with the Code Red virus in 2001.
