Concept (August 1995) was the first macro virus to infect Microsoft Word documents. It was in 1995 that it became clear that not only executable files, but also document files can become infected.

This instance was not particularly harmful, its epidemic was very sluggish (for several years),but not many computers were infected with it.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus Laboratory registered only 800 complaints. Compared to our days, the scale of the Concept virus is quite modest. However, the results for 1995-1997 were significant. Just as a small stream gives rise to a giant river, so macro viruses predetermine a huge influx of viruses into the World Wide Web.

Macro virus can do a lot. formatting a computer’s hard drive or stealing something useful is not a problem.
